Dear X,

As a voter in your electorate, I am interested to hear your view on penalty rates.

As you are no doubt aware, there is a push by some MPs and business lobby groups to strip away the penalty rates of weekend workers. If that is allowed to happen, it will have a devastating impact on local workers and their families.

Many workers rely on their penalty rates to make ends meet, and a cut to penalty rates would be a cut to their take-home pay they can’t afford and don’t deserve.

Those working weekends and other unsociable hours miss out on so much. They deserve to be fairly compensated for that.

I look forward to hearing your views on penalty rates. This is a potential vote changer for me, so I’m hopeful I will hear back from you shortly.

I’m a local voter in your electorate, so it was incredibly disappointing to discover that you do not support the protection of penalty rates.

Many workers in our electorate and across the country rely on penalty rates to make ends meet. A cut to penalty rates would be a cut to take-home pay that many workers can’t afford and don’t deserve.

As a candidate in my electorate, I would have hoped that you would be willing to stand up for local workers, particularly the lower paid workers in our area.

This is a potential vote changer for me. I sincerely hope that you will reconsider your stance on penalty rates.
